SOUTH TAYLOR

SOUTH TAYLOR ROAD, CLEVELAND HEIGHTS OH 44118
With the development of South Taylor Tudors and other new construction throughout Cleveland Heights, RATH believes the city has put the cart before the horse. Significant resources continue to support new apartments, projects near Cain Park, and other developments while more than 1,000 vacant properties remain across the city—many of them neglected, deteriorating, and lowering surrounding property values. New construction can strengthen a neighborhood, but it must be complemented by investment in the homes, businesses, and historic properties that are already there. There is little value in planting a beautiful rose in a desolate desert. RATH has a specific vision for the Blanche–South Taylor neighborhood centered on practical, affordable improvements that support new development while improving residents’ overall quality of life. We are now shifting our primary focus toward engaging business owners and landlords along South Taylor Road, with efforts directed toward the abandoned Taylor Road Synagogue, Taylor Commons, the South Taylor Tudor apartments, and other commercial properties in the area. We have already established a productive relationship with the owner of the local Shell station to improve the appearance of the property and secure a commitment to long-term maintenance. Our goal is to build on that progress and help create a cleaner, safer, and more unified South Taylor corridor. Below is our vision for what we imagine this stretch of South Taylor looking like given the proper care and resources.
